Advances in technology have enabled the collection of vast amounts of biological data. As a quantitative biologist, you’ll take the lead in converting this ‘Big Data’ into practical insights in areas such as human health, agriculture or conservation.Using statistical modelling, machine learning, computational methods, and data visualisation, you'll be able to predict the effectiveness of new drugs, model crop yields, understand how environmental factors affect species distributions, and more.This program is designed for the biologist who wants to build skills in working with large data sets generated in the life sciences. You don’t need to have a programming, computer science or statistics background. If your background is in mathematics or data analytics you will be able to take foundational courses in biology.You’ll have the opportunity to do 2 research projects tailored to your interests – one with established researchers at UQ, and another with industry, government or not-for-profit organisations. This experiential learning will ensure you gain critical thinking and project management skills in addition to core competencies.This program is taught in an intensive mode, so you can complete the equivalent of 2 years' study in just 12 to 18 months.
